Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered into a search tool is sent directly to the third-party company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies any result. Colorado Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If you email us, the message is retained as needed to prepare a response. It is not shared outside our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Standard technical information may be recorded when a page loads:
- The time and date of each page view
- The pages viewed and the time spent on them
- The referring website, when one is available
- The device type and operating system
- The browser name and version
- The device's IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help show aggregate traffic patterns, including which Colorado resource pages are used most often and where visits end. Browser controls can block cookies, although doing so may change how some features work.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Colorado Criminal History does not create, maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Colorado courts, the Colorado Department of Corrections, the Colorado Sex Offender Registry, and local custodians across 64 counties. Government access to criminal-justice records is governed by the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act, C.R.S. §§24-72-301 through 309, including the dissemination rules in C.R.S. §24-72-304. The Colorado Open Records Act, C.R.S. §§24-72-200.1 through 205.5, applies to many other public administrative records. Neither law turns this private website's visitor information into an official Colorado record system.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes that appear on the website. Information submitted through a tool is handled under that provider's privacy policy. Each provider controls its own retention and sharing practices, so review those terms before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to CBI, Colorado courts, CDOC, registry pages, county agencies, legal resources, or third-party tools. Once a visitor leaves Colorado Criminal History, the destination's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may track activity on more than one website to select ads. That processing occurs through their systems, not ours.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be received by:
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Search partners that process a query submitted to their tool
- Advertising networks that place ads on website pages
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used safeguards protect the data we collect. No internet service can promise absolute security, however. We work to reduce risk but cannot guarantee that an unauthorized access event will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied personal data, we will remove it promptly.
Your Data Rights
Privacy rights depend on the law that applies to the visitor and the data. CCJRA and CORA regulate access to Colorado government records; they do not provide the rules for data held by this private site. Subject to applicable law and any need to retain information for a lawful purpose, you may:
- Request access to personal information we have about you
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Request deletion of eligible personal information
- Opt out of certain processing where the law provides that choice
