Why We Built This Site
Public access in Colorado starts with knowing who created the record. A CBI criminal-history result is not the same as a clerk's case file, a police report, or a jail booking. The Colorado Department of Corrections tracks people in state custody, while county sheriffs maintain local jail information. The Colorado Sex Offender Registry is another distinct statewide system. Colorado Criminal History brings those routes into one reference point, then uses the Colorado county directory to direct local requests to the proper jurisdiction. Each county site provides the local contacts, portals, procedures, and fees researched for that county.

What We Cannot Do
Colorado Criminal History is a privately operated reference site. It is not connected with CBI, a Colorado court, the Department of Corrections, a sheriff, a police department, or any other government body. Those limits matter:
- We cannot retrieve an official criminal history or perform an official background check
- We cannot issue a certified case record, rap sheet, or other government document
- We cannot submit a record request or a sealing petition for a visitor
- We cannot advise anyone on how Colorado law applies to a charge or case
- We cannot promise that an agency's address, fee, phone number, or procedure has not changed
An official copy must come from the Colorado agency that created or keeps it, such as CBI, the filing court, or the local records custodian.
