Questions about official Colorado criminal records belong with the government office that keeps the requested item. No single counter holds every statewide and local record. Colorado criminal histories, court files, prison records, registry information, police reports, and county bookings follow different routes. The information below identifies the responsible Colorado system and directs county-level requests to the local office.

This Is Not a Government Office. Colorado Criminal History is a private reference resource. We cannot retrieve or correct records, conduct an official background check, accept a sealing filing, or act for a Colorado agency or court.

Need an Official Record?

Send the request to the Colorado custodian that created or maintains the record:

  • Criminal histories and rap sheets: use the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and its Biometric Identification and Records Unit
  • Court files and certified dispositions: use the Colorado court case lookup resources, then contact the clerk for the court that filed the case
  • State prison status: use the Colorado Department of Corrections and its CDOC Offender Search
  • Sex offender information: use the CBI Colorado Sex Offender Registry and the relevant county sheriff for registration records
  • Police and incident reports: contact the city, county, state, campus, or other law-enforcement agency that wrote the report
  • County bookings, jail records, warrants, and local case sources: choose the proper jurisdiction in the directory of all 64 Colorado counties

CBI publishes its main office at 690 Kipling Street, Suite 3000, Lakewood, CO 80215. Its main line is 303-239-4201, and the background-check desk is 303-239-4208. Product-specific instructions may use a different BIRU suite or submission channel, so confirm the address on the relevant CBI page before mailing fingerprints, certified dispositions, or signed sealing orders.
